The essence of the Word of God

The first item of the faith held by all genuine believers in Christ is that the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God. In 2 Timothy 3:16–17 the apostle Paul not only presents the value of the Scriptures to the believers, but more fundamentally, addresses the very essence of the Scriptures: the breath, the Spirit, of God.

Both the essence and the source of the Word of God is God Himself. The words spoken to us by the Lord Jesus are spirit and life because they have God as their essence, and they are trustworthy because they were spoken to us in the Son, the One through whom the universe was made (Heb. 1:2).
